With this demanding multi-year project located at in a poor area at 27,000 feet above sea level, Rosa Rossa Foundation actively promotes literacy in the region.  In fact, the literacy rates in this remote rural region of Arunachal Pradesh is less than 20% for the female population.  This school is the also first anti-seismic building of the region, and has a reinforced concrete structure.

The school now offers both primary and secondary education, for up to 600 students.  This is equivalent  to about 1,000 hours of teaching on an annual basis for each class. English and Hindi are taught, in addition to mathematics, history, science and other humanities.

construction phase

The Dhonekona school is a three-storey reinforced concrete building, capable of accommodating a total of 14 large classrooms (7 on the ground floor and 7 on the first floor), services, and a large open space on the attic floor. Originally the height of the school was supposed to be greater, with an extra classroom floor, but the revision of the project - carried out by Rosa Rossa for anti-seismic safety reasons, generated the lay-out described above. The support structures are made up of pillars and beams in reinforced concrete, which form real "framed portals" both in the transversal and longitudinal direction. The roof is instead a steel structure for reasons of lightness. The construction took place in just over two years, from June 2016 to November 2018, the month of the inauguration and the official opening of the building to school activities. With this school, Rosa Rossa supports the education of 600 children from the village of Dhonekona and its surroundings.

school completed

After 2 years and 3 months of construction work, the school was finally completed in the first days of November 2018, just in time for the next inauguration scheduled (and carried out) on November 6, 2018. From now on, around 600 children can access good quality education.

inauguration

On 6 November 2018, the representatives of the Foundation, together with a group of volunteers, embarked on the long journey to DhoneKhona to officially inaugurate the school in the presence of His Excellency George Palliparambil (Bishop of Miao), who, together with some important political figures , actively participated in this inauguration ceremony blessing the structure, the teachers, the children and the local populations.

dhonekhona children's mission

In this place, less than 4 years ago there was nothing. Now, thanks to Rosa Rossa and our local partner, it has become one of the most important education centers in the region. Here is a series of images depicting DhoneKhona's mission with children, Herald priests, Sisters and teachers.
